Enroll a Child
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides mentors, friends, and role models—especially for children from single-parent homes—boosting self-confidence, encouragement, and support to reach their full potential while reinforcing existing values and goals.
Volunteer screening includes:
Written application
Criminal background and child abuse checks
DMV report (for Community-Based)
Extensive interview
Three or more references
Home assessment
Training
The Youth Assessment involves
A written application
Interviews with the child and the parent/guardian,
Completed child evaluation form which is completed by the school the child attends (parent/guardian obtains this from the school)
A client evaluation if the child is receiving counseling services. (parent/guardian obtains this from the counselor or therapist)
This required information is designed to help the Enrollment Specialist learn more about the child in order to make the best possible match and secure parental permission.
Matches are carefully considered and based upon the needs of the youth, abilities of volunteers, preferences of the parent, and the capacity of program staff.
Once a match is made with a child, ongoing supervision and support is provided, and the parent/guardian has access to advice and guidance throughout the match with the child.
