Enroll A Child
Big Brothers and Big Sisters serve as friends, mentors, and role models helping children (primarily from single-parents homes) gain more self-confidence, offer encouragement, and assist them in achieving their highest potential. Our mentors provide another positive role model for a child, while supporting and reinforcing the values and goals already set. Youth Assessment involves a written application, interviews with the child and the parent/guardian, and a home assessment: it is designed to help the Enrollment Specialist learn more about the child in order to make the best possible match and secure parental permission.
Volunteer Screening and application is handled professionally and carefully. It includes:
* A written application;
* Criminal background check, child abuse check, and DMV report (for the Community Based program);
* An extensive interview;
* At least three references;
* A home assessment;
* A training session.
Matches are carefully considered and based upon the needs of the youth, abilities of volunteers, preferences of the parent, and the capacity of program staff.
Once a match is made with a child, ongoing supervision and support is provided, and the parent/guardian has access to advice and guidance throughout the match with the child.
